In a world filled with Instagram influencers, celebrities, and bloggers – including myself – it’s time to show you the steps of becoming a normal Instagram user. It’s horrific I know, but maintaining a bit of reality into your virtual world can also bring out the best in you, instead of the best in how people see you.
To get started follow those easy, yet very hard steps carefully:
1. Create a new Instagram user with your name ONLY!
While this might seem very tricky and mediocre, it’s a vital step to make this goal happen. Do not end your Instagram name with “Official” or “Public”. Just keep it as your name, sweet and simple.
2. Fill in your Bio “About” with relevant information
Yes! Fill it in with a brief about who you truly are, not who you dream of becoming and never will. This way people will follow you for the real you, making true new friends, and keeping you on top of the game.
3. DO NOT switch to Business Profile
There’s an obvious button, an evil one, that you can click when going into your Instagram settings. It’s called “Switch to Business Profile” – DO NOT CLICK IT! This will completely eliminate the main reason you’re reading this! Sometimes this can be really hard to overcome as it’s placed very temptingly. This is a trap.. Do not fall for it! It will force you to create a Facebook Fan Page (YUK!) and then link it to your profile so you become an Influencer or whatever the urge is!
Remember! If you do this you will be doomed as you will have an empty Facebook page with zero fans and many on Instagram, next steps will be frustration and nausea leading to medication assisted lifestyle. So refrain from clicking that evil tempting button.
4. Post photos shot “in the moment”
What differentiates you from everyone around, the influencers, is this. They hire photographers, they make their friends hate the second they considered being around them, and even spend hours choosing the best photo among 165 photos taken because the ankle is twisted in this, or a tiny baby hair is hanging at the back of the portrait shot.
Be unique, snap a photo, capture the moment, share it with your friends and fans (or in this case they’re called potential friends). After all this is what Instagram is all about!
5. Do not create a timeline theme
It’s a trend to have your timeline “profile” themed. Just remember, one day, this will change, and whoever had a theme in their timeline will be screwed with a scrambled-eggs theme that will have them struggle into making it all alright again, and the Xanax will be mandatory then.
Ignore that, just post your photos and unedited videos and you’re good to go.
6. Use a real caption expressing the moment – NO QUOTE OR HASHTAGS
Do you really want to be one of those people showing their abs or cleavage with an inspirational business quote said by Donald Trump? I guess not! Refrain from using quotes or hashtags for all that matters, people will find you either way and will relate to you when they read a relevant caption expressing the moment.
7. Follow your friends, Follow Back your followers
It’s ridiculous when genuine people like you and follow you, and you simply disrespect them by not engaging or following them back. I mean come on, they liked you to the extent that they followed you even though you did all the steps above, those are real followers! Cherish them, follow them back give the people some credit!
8. Do not imitate, innovate!
Do not try to make your life as perfect as what influencers try to show you. Because their life is not perfect, many are insecure, going through bad marriages, broke, have no friends, and the list goes on.
So be you! Atleast this way you have nothing to be scared of, especially that you will never care if anyone digs into your personal life, it’s out in the open. So do not imitate their fake lives, innovate your real one!
9. Do not use Instagram followers and likes boosters
Many come for free, many require the system of like-for-like and follow-for-follow. It’s horrible, you’re not that person, remember you’re real. So refrain from using those satanic applications as you will be wasting time, and some times money on bullshit.
10. Stay away from the below:
- A business inquiry email address
- Sharing quotes and inspirational text, remember, you are the inspiration!
- Pretending to be a blogger on Instagram, instead, create an actual blog and start writing or recording vlogs on YouTube
- Using hashtags within your captions
- Wasting time on keeping an eye on who followed you or liked your pictures
- Liking every picture that appears on the Explore tab
If you were able to do all the above, you are officially a normal Instagram user with the noble goal of making friends and sharing your moments with your friends, family, and the world.
Welcome to the first step into becoming you in real life, and the virtual one. Peace!
